• "Beware My Power!" – (13-page story) – When Guy Gardner is injured, the Guardians of the Universe instruct Hal Jordan to train another back-up, but John Stewart has different ideas about how to be a Lantern. When an attempt is seemingly made on the life of racist politician Jeremiah Clutcher, John Stewart figures out that the attack was faked and part of a cynical plot to get Clutcher elected president.
• "What Can One Man Do?" – (13-page story) – Mayor Jack Major wishes to step down as head of Star City’s government. Mayoral aide Kevin McManus phones up Oliver Queen and asks him to run for the office. Queen phones some of his Justice League friends to talk over the offer, and gets mixed advice. But, shortly after, Green Arrow is embroiled in a race riot in which a young boy is shot, and, despite GA’s and a team of doctors’ best efforts, he dies. Moved to tears by the incident, Green Arrow goes to see Dinah Lance, and tells her he has decided to run for mayor.
• "Earth's First Green Lantern!" – (10-page story, reprinted from Green Lantern #16, vol. 2, Oct. 1962) – Hal Jordan explains to Pieface why Abin Sur came to Earth in a spaceship when all Green Lanterns can travel thru space unaided.
